Millrose Games - Madison Square GardenThe 60 Meter Womens Title was as close as they come as Inger Miller edged Sevatheda Fynes of the Bahamas in the women's 60-meter dash. Miller, ranked third in the world in the women's 100 meters, was timed in 7.194 seconds, Fynes in 7.198. Maurice Greene, the 1997 world champion and ranked No. 1 in the world last year, recovered from a slow start and won the men's 60 meters for the second consecutive year in 6.51. Regina Jacobs outdueled Suzy Hamilton in the women's mile. William Tanui became the second straight Kenyan to win the Wanamaker Mile, sprinting past Richie Boulet with less than a half-lap remaining and finishing in 3:59.24. Boulet wound up second in 4:00.03. Reggie Torian, the 1998 national outdoor hurdles champion, easily won the men's 60-meter hurdles in 7.59. Larry Wade, the 1998 NCAA indoor and outdoor champion from Texas A&M, finished second at 7.72. Mark Crear, the world's top-ranked hurdler, false-started twice. Melissa Morrison repeated as champion in the women's 60 hurdles in 7.99, with Gillian Russell of Jamaica second at 8.05. Two American records were broken by women: Pole vaulter Melissa Mueller and weight thrower Dawn Ellerbe. Mueller cleared 14 - 8 3/4 , the highest ever indoors in the United States by a woman, breaking the mark of 14-8 1/4 held by Stacy Dragila, the 1997 world indoor champion. Ellerbe shattered her American record in the 20-pound weight throw, with a heave of 75-3 1/4 . Her previous mark was 75-2 1/2 . Millrose Trivia: Mark Everett won his ninth Millrose title and fourth at 500 meters.Everett also has three Millrose victories at 600 yards and two 800 meters. Connie Price-Smith earned her eighth Millrose title, tying the meet record for women held by Diane Dixon, winning the women's shot put at 61-0. Lance Deal won his seventh Millrose title in the men's 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 77-6.
